Hot and sexy young actress Kajal Agarwal was born on 19th June 1985 in Mumbai, India. She made her debut in films with a Tollywood film “Laksmi Kalyanam” in 2007 in the direction of acclaimed director Teja. She has become a celebrity in the film Industry in a very short span of time. Later on her performance in a Telugu film “Chandamama” got good appreciation from the public as well as from the critics.

Kajal Agarwal, has emerged as the latest heartthrob of Andhra youth with her romantic performance in Ramcharan movie Magadheera.
She is also doing a lead role in “Arya-2” opposite to Allu Arjun and against Ram (Devdas Fame) in Just Ganesh. She made her presence in Tamil and Hindi films too.

Biography:

Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na (2004), starring Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai was Kajal Aggarwal’s debut under the arc lights but like many other pretty, sexy and young hopefuls, she trekked down south to try her luck. And here she found the pot at the end of the rainbow in the form of Lakshmi Kalyanam opposite Kalyan Ram in Tollywood.

The five-feet-four svelte girl from Mumbai armed with a degree in Mass communication entered the tinsel town through Bharathiraja, the talent spotter. The veteran director decided to cast her as the female protagonist in his bilingual Cinema (in Hindi) and Bommalattam (in Tamil). Even before the release of her debut film, Kajal Agarwal is hot property in Telugu films thanks to Teja who introduced her there with Lakshmi Kalyanam. The film did not do too well, yet Krishna Vamsi came to her rescue with Chandamama, a runaway hit.

The Telugu film industry embraced the innocent faced nymphet and she has quite a number of hits under her belt starring opposite Sumanth, Navdeep and Nitin. Her movies like Chandamama, Pourudu and Aatadista have firmly established her as a contender for the top slot in the Telugu film industry.

Kajal is breaking into the big league with her forthcoming lineup of under production films such as Dheerudu opposite Ram Charan Teja, Arya- 2 starring Allu Arjun with another untitled flick opposite Junior NTR in the pipeline. Understandably the young actress is extremely proud of her achievement, that too in such a short time.

Notwithstanding her inroads into the Telugu film industry, her Tamil movies like Pazhani, the Bharath-starrer and Saroja as Mirchi Shiva’s romantic interest have brought her to the notice of Tamil film goers as well. She is now acting in two Tamil movies: Bommalattam directed by Bharathiraja, which also stars Nana Patekar and Modhi Vilayadu starring Vinay (Unnale Unnale Fame).

Kajal Agarwal is one actress who knows what she wants. The lady, who is in Chennai to shoot for the film Modhi Vilayadu, says that there is nothing wrong in being glamourous.
"I find nothing wrong in it," she says. "Every person has their own limits and boundaries. As long as it is decent and not vulgar and as long as my family approves it, I have no issues with being glamourous," the actress says with a smile.

However, Kajal also makes it clear that she prefers character-oriented roles to glamour ones. "I prefer family roles and I want to be known as a good character artiste," she says.
Currently, she is on cloud nine after replacing Tamannaah opposite the hot 'n' happening Allu Arjun in his next film, a sequel to his blockbuster Arya in Telugu. One sensible dame, we'd say!

Kajal Agarwal has also showed matured performance in Magadheera especially in the flashback episode as a princess. She proved that she is not just after glamour.

Biography

Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine biologist, and Vrinda Rai, a writer. Her family belongs to the Bunt community of Mangalore. She has one elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy and also co-produced one of Rai's movies, Dil Ka Rishta (2003).

After she was born, her parents moved to Mumbai where she attended the Arya Vidya Mandir high school in Santa Cruz. Rai then entered Jai Hind College at Churchgate for one year, and then moved to Ruparel College in Matunga to finish her "HSC" studies. She did well in school and planned to become an architect.

She can communicate in several languages, including Tulu, Hindi, English, Marathi and Tamil. While pursuing her studies in architecture, Rai began modeling on the side. In the 1994 Miss India contest, she won the second place (behind Sushmita Sen), and went on to win the Miss World title the same year, where she also won the Miss Photogenic award. She abandoned her studies after winning the pageant and spent one year reigning as Miss World in London. Rai then started working as a professional model and then moved on to her current profession as an actress.

Rai has previously dated Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. She is now married to Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan. The wedding took place on 20 April 2007.

Early career

Rai made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film, Iruvar (1997) with Mohanlal, and was introduced to Bollywood in the film, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol, which also released that year; the film didn't do well at the box office.

However, her third project, S. Shankar's Tamil film, Jeans (1998) was a critical and commercial success, earning her the Filmfare Best Actress Award South. She went on to appear in many Bollywood films. The film, which portrayed Rai in a dual role, took Rai two years to complete. A few successful films of her career include Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which earned the actress her first Filmfare Best Actress Award and Taal (1999), which gave her another nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare; her performances in both the films were lauded. In 2000, she played a supporting role in the hit films Mohabbatein and Josh. Later that year, she starred in the Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain, which won her positive reviews.

Success

In 2002, Rai appeared alongside Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in Sanjay Leela Bansali's lavishly produced Devdas. The film attracted overseas attention as well, receiving a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival. It was during this time that she garnered the attention of the West as an Indian actress and went on to appear in a few Hollywood projects. Devdas went on to become the highest grossing film of the year both in India and overseas, earning the actress her second Filmfare Best Actress Award.

As her name gained popularity overseas, she was chosen by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the World's "100 Most Influential People", and appeared on the cover of Time magazine, Asia Edition (TIMEasia) in 2003. She was the subject of a 60 Minutes profile on 2 January. A month later she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman. She was also featured on Oprah's "Women Across the Globe" segment. In 2003, she acted in the critically acclaimed and commercial successful Bengali film, Chokher Bali, an adaptation of one of Rabindranath Tagore's novels by the same name.

Rai has been a regular at the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and was a member of the Jury at Cannes in the year 2003. In October 2004, a wax figure of Rai was put on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum. The same month, her first foreign film, Bride and Prejudice released. The film was an Indian version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Her next overseas venture was The Mistress of Spices. She then appeared at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian art, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi. In between her overseas acting stints, she appeared in the Indian film Bunty Aur Babli in a hugely popular seven minute dance sequence for the song "Kajra Re".

In 2005, Rai signed a three-year contract with L'Oréal, as a spokesmodel for the cosmetics company. At the end of the year 2006, she had two releases: Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2. While the former did poorly in India, her role in the latter, which was a sequel to the 2004 hit movie Dhoom brought her great attention. The film went on to become the biggest hit of the year, and sparked a controversy for a scene containing a kiss between her and Hrithik Roshan. For her performance, she received nominations for Best Actress at a number of award ceremonies, including Filmfare.

2007 saw the release of Mani Ratnam's Guru which premiered in Toronto. The film, based on the life of Indian businessman Dhirubhai Ambani, was critically acclaimed and did well at the box office. Her most recent film, Provoked, based on the book Circle of Light where she portrays a real life character, was released on 6 April 2007 in India and the UK. The biographical movie portrays the life of Kiranjit Ahluwalia who faced severe domestic violence. The movie won Aishwarya a lot of critical acclaim. At the end of April 2007, her first American film, The Last Legion released in Russia and the Netherlands and later opened in North American theaters in August 2007 disappointingly. In 2008, she starred alongside Hrithik Roshan in Ashutosh Gowariker's historical drama Jodhaa Akbar playing the role of Jodha Bai, the wife of the Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, played by Roshan; and also co-starred with husband Abhishek Bachchan and her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan in Sarkar Raj, playing the CEO of a major power company proposing to establish a new power plant in rural Maharashtra.

Trivia

Aishwarya is a close friend of Preity Zinta and Twinkle Khanna.

She was featured as one of the 100 Most Influential and Powerful People in the World by Time Magazine.

Aishwarya has a little puppy named Sunshine which was given to her by Vivek Oberoi.

Shahrukh Khan wanted the two big beauty queens, Ash and Sushmita Sen in Asoka during the initial planning process for the movie. Aishwarya Rai nearly signed the lead role in Asoka, until director Santosh Sivan decided he wanted an actress that had not been paired with Shahrukh before on the big screen. Well, it seems Shahrukh also wanted Sushmita Sen to appear in the movie for the special song and dance number. However, its a shame that things didn’t work out, other Asoka would have managed that casting coup that so many directors and producers have tried beforehand - Miss World and Miss Universe together on the big screen at last!

Aishwarya would have been a doctor or an architect if not an actress.

Long long ago, Aishwarya had auditioned for voice dubbing for a teleserial. And can you believe it, the Ms. World was rejected outright!

The host, Richand Steinmelz, of the Miss World 1994 event, actually asked Aishwarya Rai out. Aishwarya Rai, being a professional refused right away.

When Ash is at home she’s always casually dressed and she spends hours chatting up friends. She cherishes every gift she gets. During the Pepsi campaign Ash dropped in on a young girl who presented her with a framed collage of her pictures. It has pride of place on one of the walls in her room. Some dolls her friends presented her with rub shoulders with other expensive show pieces in her treasured collection.

Aishwarya Rai was to act in Lajja? Well Santoshi had also signed her for the film. She was to appear in a scene where Manisha Koirala imagines a Sita Ram confrontation and finds Aishwarya doing the scene. But the length of the film was a big impediment. The film ran all the way up to three hours and 23 minutes even without Aishwarya Rai’s scene. Now the film had to be anyway chopped to 3 hours and 10 minutes. Now there was no alternative but to cut Rai's scene out.

Ash loves to watch serious films like Garam Hawa. She catches up with such classics whenever she has the time.

Sachin Tendulkar is Aishwarya's neighbour. He lives a floor right above Aishwarya's apartment.

Rajiv Menon's Kandukondain Kandukondain is the first 'commercial' Indian film that was shown at the London Film Festival a few years ago.

Aishwarya Rai is willing to do any role with any actor in Tamil as long as the storyline is good.

Aishwarya Rai was ranked the 7th Most Admired Indian in a countrywide poll conducted by The Week magazine recently. The only film celebrities in the list were Lata Mangeshkar (2nd) and Amitabh Bachchan (4th).

Ash is a spontaneous actress and can reel off sheets of dialogue in one take.

Ash does not like to entertain guests in her trailer van. She meets them only the sets where when she’s not giving a shot she’s usually giggling over some joke a co-star cracked.

Ash hates talking on the cell phone when she’s working. She believes they should be banned on the sets.

Kandukondain Kandukondain means “I’ve found it, I’ve found it”? Yup, director Rajiv Menon’s found his calling, Tabu and Ash found their director and the audience found a film that appealed to their Sense and Sensibility! `Tis a success story all around!

Aishwarya Rai always gets at least 2 movie offers everyday.

Ash is also the only star, besides Aamir Khan, to campaign for both Pepsi and Coca Cola.

Aishwarya Rai, was first offered Karisma Kapoor's role in Raja Hindustani. She was also offered, Rani Mukherjee's role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Also, she was offered Sonali Bendre's role in Hum Saath Saath Hain and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Of course, these are not the only films she was offered. Which director would not want to cast this angel...!!!

Salman Khan wanted to change the ending of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, but director Sanjay Leela Bhansali stood his ground.

Govinda refused the role eventually played by Anil Kapoor in Taal.

In the song sequence of ‘Hai Re Hai Re Hai Rabba’ from the movie Jeans, in the canyon scene, Aishwarya wore a yellow top and a maroon fitted skirt. Ash wore that without anyone noticing that her clothes weren't the ones that she was told to wear. The actual clothes were too tight for her. She found a yellow dupatta, and wound it around both her shoulders. She used many pins and literally stitched it over her body. She had a maroon colored maxi below. The original blouse was beige colored, but it was not fitting her at all. Nobody came to know the problem with her dress. She even slept throughout the night with those clothes for the next morning’s shoot as the dupatta was difficult to remove due to the enormous amount of pins holding it together.

Aishwarya Rai did her own stunt scenes in Josh.

Shahrukh Khan was asked to wear contact lenses in Josh so that his eyes matched Aishwarya's and they both could look like siblings.

That the song 'Aati Kya Khandala' was given to Mansoor Khan by Nitin Raikwar for Josh. Mansoor Khan did not like the lyrics and the song was passed on to Vikram Bhatt who used it in Ghulam which went on to become a rage. Realising his folly, Mansoor asked Nitin to write a similar type of song for Josh and he came up with 'Apun Bola' which has been sung by Shahrukh. Apparently, they also offered Ash to sing the song but Ash did not.

The song 'Taal se taal mila' in Taal was shot at Khandala in natural rains for seven consecutive days.

Taal is the first Indian Film being fully insured by the Indian Insurance Company.

Taal is the first Hindi Film to top the chart of Hollywood Top 60 ( per screen average wise ) in its first weekend.

Aishwarya wore very little makeup in Josh and had to tan her skin to look more like a Goan.

Aishwarya's pet name at home is "Gullu".

Aishwarya was hurt in Mela during the 'falling on top of the truck' scene.

The first half of Kandukondain Kandukondain was completed in a week's time.

In the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the scene at the restaurant with Ash and Ajay Devgan, she ate 12 real chillies!

She secured 90% (PCB) in HSC at Ruparel College in Mumbai.

Aishwarya learnt classical dance and music in her teens for 5 years.

Her Pepsi ad with Aamir Khan was shot in one night during the infamous Bombay riots.

During the shoot of the scene of Abbas and Aishwarya in the Mercedes in Kandukondain Kandukondain, she nearly missed getting run over by an autorickshaw while getting out of the car. She and the unit breathed a sigh of relief.

In 1993, it was rumoured that she had decided to enter the Miss India contest and certain newspapers began endorsing her as the 'Face of 1993'. When she did enter in 1994, a spontaneous publicity campaign awaited her.

Aishwarya is India's 2nd model to win the Miss World title.

Before Aishwarya left for the Miss India finals, her zip had split and her gown was brought by the designer to Goa, since the contest was in Goa. The same thing happened to her in Miss World. On the evening she was doing her final trial on her gown, the zip split. It had to be repaired, so it came in later.

Aishwarya used to accompany her mother to marketplace and haggle over the prices with vegetable vendors when she was young.

Aishwarya Rai sued a magazine, 'Star And Style' for a sum of Rs 2 crores for printing an article that said Raveena Tandon had caught her and Akshay Kumar together in a compromising position at the pool side of a five star hotel.

On the day for the 1994 Miss India pageant, nothing seemed to go right for Aishwarya. The swimsuit, her father's gift, simply disappeared and later, a valuable 'good luck' ring from her mother was misplaced by a friend whom she had given it for safekeeping. Then there was the much-publicised 'showdown' that took place backstage. According to Sushmita Sen, it began when the hair-dressers and make-up artists (who naturally knew Ash from her modelling days) spent all their time styling her and leaving the other girls waiting until 15 minutes before showtime. Angry and upset, Sushmita said she had an argument with The Times of India authorities and threatened to quit the pageant.

Aishwarya is the first Indian actress to have decided to donate her eyes.

During Aishwarya's rendition of Yengai Yennada Kavithai in Kandukondain Kandukondain, it actually poured cats and dogs as Chennai was facing the brunt of the North East monsoon. In fact, it rained so heavily that they actually found it difficult to shoot.

The last shot of the song Konjum Mainakale in Kandukondain Kandukondain has Ash running towards the horizon. She didn't quite hear the "shot over" call and continued to run much after!

The library scene in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, took Aishwarya 3 days of retakes.

A chandelier broke on Ash's hand and blood oozed out during Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. During the Nimbooda Nimbooda number, her feet were swollen for two days.

Aishwarya was gifted a puppy named ‘Sunshine’ by her friend Vivek Oberoi.

In the October 2, 2003 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, Aishwarya is described as "the hottest thing from India since chicken tikka."

During the shooting of the song ‘Dola Re Dola’ from Devdas, Aishwarya’s ears were bleeding due to the heavy ear rings she had to wear. But being the professional she is, she continued the shoot in silent pain, smiling all the while.

Aishwarya is the first Indian actor to be on the jury at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Aishwarya's picture is featured in the 2004 Guinness Book of World Records. Click here to view the insert.
